K'naan switches up from poppy (and hilarious) storytelling on "15 Minutes Away" ( if sung in multiple languages "15 Minutes.." would have major licensing offers from Western Union) to grim tales of life in Somalia delivered over a very pretty beat in "Are You Hardcore, Really?" along the way stepping into a remix on which he calls out hardcore rappers who ultimately have infrastructure to fall back on, as he speaks about the more absolute hell of hospitals riddled with gunshots and blocked off areas where cashless = defenseless, he also gets up with some straight up Pan-African pop with "In The Beginning". Those of ATP's early crowd were familiar with a lot of his tunes and it was one of those mellow festival moments where the curious were rewarded, as will be early arrivals atthe upcoming festival in Golden Gate Park where K'naan will be playing. Interview with Ludivine Sagnier, whose mention of K'naan serves as this clip's introduction, will be up in a minute.
