Fantastic application. Ideal for hard of hearing, beneficial for everyone regardless of our level of hearing loss....especially between subjects where one or both don't know sign language. Any technology that we can use to communicate more easily with everyone else will help us in our day to day lives. THANK YOU!

Looks cool! Is this similar with software for typists called Dragon Jaw, speech to text?

First, the hearing person can communicate with the deaf person, but how does the deaf person respond? "Grandma" can probably speak clearly, because she lost her hearing when she was 70, but how does a deaf person ask questions of the hearing person with whom they're trying to communicate? The doctor or the sales clerk is not going to have time to wait while the deaf person types out their statement or question. This also isn't helpful for a deaf person for whom English is their second language.

More of Live Captioning.
The app has been updated to have a keyboard mode now as well. So you can respond to the hearing person by typing manually if you would like. There is an on screen button that easily switches between Voice Recognition mode and Keyboard Entry mode. ClosedCapp(dot)com

This app looks useful, but it's not really "closed" captioning. "Closed" means that you can turn already created captions on or off as needed. This app is designed to provide speech recognition on an ongoing basis for a deaf or hard of hearing person, though it's necessary to stop and wait for the speech recognition to work. It could be particularly useful for a person with very severe hearing loss.

@dmulvany Good point. Will be interesting to see if we can make truly live streaming captioning. That's the goal, this is where we at at presently. Still pretty cool though, no?

The tech's not different, just presented differently. Currently using Google's VR, so if you turn on the device's personalization settings, it gets even better as it learns the user's voice. More detail on the tips page at ClosedCapp(dot)com

It is on the Android Market only at the moment. Just search for Closed Caption or Closed Capp on the Android Market. I am using a Galaxy Tab 10.1 in this video.
