Opening Ceremony of Caroline House Health Sciences Student Center

Caroline House, the Health Sciences Student Center was ceremoniously opened in October 2009 in the presence of generous benefactors Caroline and Arnie Simon.

"Caroline and Arnie are a rare couple who go so much further than offering funds. They give of themselves as members of the BGU family," lauded University President Prof. Rivka Carmi. "They are passionate in their involvement on behalf of the University, making a difference in the quality of life of our students."

Caroline explained her decision to create the Caroline House: "I have always been drawn to medical students and fascinated by the medical world and its tremendous developments and breakthroughs. My mother died of cancer at the age of 42, and I've always wondered whether if she had lived in another era, we could have prolonged her life. Some people want to buy a yacht
with their money, but I don't see my contribution as a sacrifice. To me, seeing this project in my lifetime is the greatest gift, and it gives me extreme satisfaction. This is my dream come true."

University President Prof. Rivka Carmi added, "The Simons have contributed to realizing the Faculty's dreams -- with their help the Faculty is able to provide students with the highest quality medical education and range of projects, they have shown how much natural talent can be accomplished when supported by the right opportunities. They will always be remembered by all students as a couple who is there whenever needed."

Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Ada Karmi-Melamede, Caroline House is a four-story building adjacent to the Joyce and Irving Goldman Medical School. It includes study rooms, a meeting room, an allpurpose events room, and administrative offices for the Medical School for International Health, and the Medical Student Association in the Negev.
