So, basically what Robert is saying at the end of this segment is that all young aspiring artists should turn to graphic arts as a result of the difficulty of becoming a successful visual artist and the increase of the readily available "graphic" art positions.

That sounds like something any mediocre college art professor would say to an undergrad.

What if he had taken his own advice...there wouldn't be a Robert Williams painter! Fuck him and his bad suit!!

@samuel71602 Hmmm. I didn't take that from what he said. Seems to me just a warning for the hard road ahead that any artist has trying to make their way doing their own style vs. having to compromise thier work for commercial jobs.

If that's the case then why wouldn't he offer words of encouragement rather than discouragement. And he's suggesting that artists contribute their ideas to companies and coorperations...the very thing that his art supposedly stands against...the people his art mocks...etc.

Being an artist is difficult, but no more now than it was in his day. I find his compliment to be biased and presumptuous. Not to mention pretentious.
