11.23.2011: Wilma Briggs, an East Greenwich native, played 6 years with the Fort Wayne Daisies and a season with the South Bend Blue Sox in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1948-1954. She played outfield and first base, batted left and threw right. In 1953 she led the AAGPBL in home runs and her career home run total of 43 was the second best in the league which was featured in the 1992 movie A League of Their Own.
