the idea that the fuss of people smuggling has anything to do with resources is ridiculous - the people who most bemoan the 24,000 boat people who have showed up at our shores over the past 40 years are precisely the people who sneer the loudest at sustainabilty mesures.

What the infinitesimal trickle of boat faring asylum seekers has to do with that, I don't know, but I don't doubt that it's confused in people's minds.

Actually it's' corporatists' (people punking for corporations and making money off people by driving down the price of workers) that "see people as assets" and 'human resources'. Many of them call themselves 'libertarians' or 'conservatives' or whatever they think pretty.

But mostly advocates like O'Rourke and those he serves are 'Economic Traitors ' to any nation they infest.

There's no good reason to allow non-Australians into the country other than on very temporary student or tourist visas. Australian jobs and public services should be entirely for Australians.

Adore PJ O'Rourke, but he lives in New Hampshire. His $ is not being stolen to pay for illegals. In Los Angeles 99% of gardeners, house/hotel maids, janitors, cooks,carwashers, fast food workers are illegals from Central America/Mexico. They are not lazy, BUT teens, seniors, the poorly educated have NO JOBS available because the lower jobs are taken by illegals. THEY do not pay taxes for streets, schools, hospitals, jails which they use. Economy of CA RUINED by political pandering to them.
