Hyundais are Awesome!

Attention Elantra owners!! 2011 Hyundai Elantra grinding then whining engine noise at start up. First you will hear the valvetrain grind then a whining noise. Listen for this when the engine is very cold or has not been run for a while. This will result in a class action lawsuit. The top end is receiving heavy wear and tear each time this happens. It seems to me like a faulty check valve issue in the oiling system. If engineered properly it would prevent all the oil from draining completely out of the top end and back into the pan in between runs. WTF? Hyundai says it is all normal and wants me to get over it. I say this engine is gunna suffer an early death. I have never owned a vehicle that makes this much noise when started... benji1 Hi I have a 2011 Elantra MD Premium 1.8 LT.Petrol. Right from our first cold start,we have heard the Whinning sound just after the engine starts. It does it every cold start,then it makes normal starting sound for the rest of the day.Hyundai Service have looked at the problem several times, firstly thought it may have been a fan belt,but it wasn't unfortuneately.

Other than this noise the car performs great, and is a plesure to drive.

I will advise if a answer comes to light.

If you spent half the time at your local dealership getting your problem addressed as you do online bashing a car company about something you don't understand, maybe your car would be fixed already.
