One thing I never got with Tanners description of the war: Why the hell was China on the side of the USA? I mean, wouldn't they be more likely to side with the Russians and Cubans being similarly communist?

Anyway, I would of though, a long with the UK, Canada, Australia, probably even India may of had some involvement,

This is second best scene. Best is when LTC Tanner explains to Jed how he got shot down. "colonel, how did you get shot down?" "It was five to one, I got four"

China and the Soviet Union, though both communist, were at each other's throats since the early 60's to the point where they even fought a border war in the late 60's and the US, under Nixon, cozied up to the Communist Chinese in a 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' type of maneuver in the 70's. (Google "Sino-Soviet Split.") Even in the 80's, the Soviets regularly massed troops on the Chinese border and the Chinese opposed and fiercely condemned their invasion of Afghanistan.

remember the 1969 sino-soviet split, and do you remember that the American and Chinese have Supported the Muj during Soviet Afghan war.
