End-user demo of a Wittig / Welec 200Mhz digital storage oscilloscope purchased off eBay for $600-$700 during March 2008.

There's a total lack of third-party info available for these units, so this is a step towards fixing that.

The ten cent summary is, great sampling value for the money (no other 200Mhz scope retails for below double that price), but the firmware is a bit slow at times, and is somewhat buggy in places.

In particular, when the capture is stopped, it is not always possible to zoom or scroll the display. Doh!

The makers are releasing periodic firmware updates, so hopefully the bugs will go away someday.

I now have a review page about the scope at http://rtr.ca/welec_w2022a/

  • xeno511 asked: "Buy or not??".

Read my web review, from the (new) link in the video description.

    Cheers

  • What is this thing used for?

  • It's an *oscilloscope*. Look up that word in Wikipedia for a nice, detailed description of how these are used.

The short answer is that it is a basic piece of test gear for working with electronic circuits.

It displays a visual plot of the circuit voltage (up/down axis) relative to time (left/right axis), allowing one to "view" and measure what the electricity in a circuit is doing.

  • buy an old analogue scope instead this

    by a disappointed client

  • @Daedronus it has 2gs and it is working absolutely superb for the money, far superior of tek tds 3012....now i am considering to buy the new series (600 mhz 5 gs!!)....

  • For this money get a 1Gs/s low end Tektronics scope. That actually does what it claims to do.

It might only have 60-100Mhz analog bandwidth, but at 1Gs/s more analog bandwidth is pointless.

  • I spot a empeg !

  • i was buying it on ebay but after read this i stop the businness.

Then i contact rigol USA and now i am waiting for my 300 Mhz scope for 1400 usd...

  • Nice explanation - much appreciated, Amishman35.

  • Next time someone asks if you have seen a song, an oscilloscope will allow you to say, Yes, I have seen that song.

  • thanks for the review thank you thank you thank you!

  • Mhhh

    Too late,

    I have bought the product.
