@BigPhil1982, Big time prop's for making that statment, Big Phil. And you're 110% right, too. I'm sure Aidan O'Brien had to be getting frustrated constantly seeing STS's backside during the entire 2009 season, LOL. But like you said, O'Brien never backed off of challenging STS with the best he had. It was primarily facing Fame and Glory, Rip Van Winkle, and Mastercraftsman that STS made his name on. I guess you could probably throw Conduit into that mix. Since he beat him in the Eclipse and Arc.

A lot of people say the run that Rip Van Winkle made at STS was the closest he ever came to losing one of his G1 stakes. But I've always thought Mastercraftsman in this race came closer than Rip Van Winkle did at Sandown. When Rip came at him in the Eclipse, STS just hit an extra gear and immediately pulled away from him. In this race, Mastercraftsman was on the lead and made STS really work to catch him. I heard RacingUK's Graham Cunningham say that he actually called STS beaten in this race.

@vixitrixalina he didnt really look beat? and they were pacemakers you clown!!!!

@AvalonAvenger007 HITHERTO we've had few offspring of Danehill Mares X Galileo but the Prince (KA) has "Noble Mission" a FULL BROTHER with Royal Lodge (Sept 2011) & 2012 Derby Entries waiting at home. Thus far, Frankel's only needed to use speed to blow away 2-3yr olds but the real tests'll come v. older ops, going abroad or up in trip where his turbo will be a killer blow if delivered late in a race in which he's settled. I'm hoping they don't over-face him this yr & we see him again NEXT yr.

Frankel is quite possibly the best sprint-miler EVER: ALREADY rated 130 - that's 8lbs!! above where Canford Cliffs was at that stage of his career. Horses Fr's beaten have since won July Cup, Irish Guineas, Irish Derby & Nathaniel may yet boost that record in the KG, Leger or Arc. Frankel's blistering speed & high Cruising speed is what we've seen THUS FAR - the poker player showing his hand - but if he's held up & kept in training @ 4yr we may be watching a horse that'll be rated 140 one day!

@AvalonAvenger007 STS was THE MIDDLE DISTANCE horse of a lifetime & almost certainly never showed his full potential - like a poker player forces Ops to fold & never shows his hand! His acceleration in the Derby & Arc were fab. His grit in the Jud Int and Irish Champ were admirable - AS WAS KINANE IN EVERY RACE: supreme skill in the saddle. It was a great shame he didn't stay in training - He might've won a KG, another Arc & abroad @ Breeders Cup &/or Dubai/Hong Kong, but the owners had plans...

@GBeret83 Attempts to compare across years AND distances are bound to be subjective & troublesome & not particularly realistic. Certainly we CAN say horses STS beat are STILL winning group 1s. AND those beaten by Frankel have ALREADY won G1s @ 6, 8 and 12f . A PC prog (or a lot of spare time!) may be required to judge which generated more G1s in BEATEN horses & which was rated higher at which points in their careers ( Frankel is ALREADY 130!) but very different racing styles & diferent trips.

@smifffff747, Frankel's certainly in a league all his own among 3yr.old's. But there's no way you can say the 3yr.old's that Frankel has been beating up on are better 3yr.old's than the one's that STS faced in 2009. Besides Frankel, who among today's 3yr.old's are better horses than Fame and Glory, Mastercraftsman, Rip Van Winkle, and Delegator?
-
Always wished we had gotten to see both Sea The Stars and Mastercraftsman race on as 4yr.old's in 2010. Both extremely talented horses, indeed!!
-
@TicinoParadise I hear you and respect that opinion - really, who knows? The Belmont was, to me, just extraordinary BUT now we have Frankel making ponies of top thoroughbreds, getting a Timeform rating above Sea the Stars and now I'm all at sea!
He is a FABULOUS HORSIE!
