Here's what the Tetris theme looks like displayed in real time (top) and its frequency components (bottom) on a Rigol DS1052E Oscilloscope.

The waveform on the top is simply the voltage on the Y axis vs. time on the X axis, coming directly out a headphone channel at full volume.
The waveform on the bottom is the frequency plot of the waveform on the top (called an FFT or Fast Fourier Transform), which shows the amplitude of frequency components on the Y axis, and the frequency on the X axis. You can watch the FFT as you hear the notes, and see which frequency each note is, as well as the base going in the background (on the left).

I got the song from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whBg7IF5JUg

  • How did you get the fft to show? I have a DS1102E scope, and I can't seem to find the function...

  • @Hassasin195 Math -> Operate -> FFT, Select channel, window, display, units, etc.

  • @jkenny1 Ah, thanks, never mucked around in the math menu

  • How bout one on Mario?

  • @villadelfia Well, actually 2 pulse (square) wave channels, a customizable waveform channel that could be used to produce ANY wave or DPCM SAMPLE, and a 16 frequency white noise generator.

  • @mima14031985 Well, actually 2 square wave channels, a 4 bit pcm channel (that could be used to produce a triangle wave) and a white noise channel :p
