I've been working on Magnet headphones for my boyfriend and myself for the NDK NYE 2010/2011 formal ball. We're not being any specific characters. They were made to match my dress which he also agreed to match, haha.

Materials:
-Headphones
-3mm thick black craft foam (1.5 sheets for 8 wings)
-green paper for the backs
-neon yellow paper for the inside
-plastic translucent green folder
-battery powered strand of LED holiday lights
-2 glowstick bracelets (1 for each side)
-4 glowstick connectors (2 for each side)
-1 sheet of black fleece
-2 twisty ties
-sparkly plastic gems
-(might use) green ribbon
-(might use) white paint, glitter/glue
-(probably won't be able to use) 32-pack of straight floral wires

I also used
-Super glue
-Hot glue (gun)
-Elmer's glue
-Black acrylics
-Black nail polish (when my acrylics disappeared)
-Black spray paint
-(probably won't get to use) silver spray paint
-4 x-acto knives (wow do those blades dull fast)

I wanted to also put on the (kinda signature. oops.) metal wire loopy things that come off the top, but the design of the actual headphones don't look like they're gonna allow for it. Not enough room to attach them, and since they're working headphones, I don't want to drill them.

  • Whoa, these are awesome! My sis and I went to Nan desu kan,

were you at the Vocaloid photoshoot?

    ^.^

  • @StrawberryBakana

Nahh, I didn't even start making these until December. We wore them only to the NDK NYE and we may wear them to the Wasabi formal. I think we're only gonna use these for formal events. Regular conventioning probably involves too much running around for the headphones to last long, unfortunately.

Even if I had worn them to NDK, I always seem to have horrible photoshoot timing and probably would have missed the shoot anyways. xD

  • how did you build them? I build these for my fellow cosplayers and I'd love to know how to do it

  • @KazumaYuuki

I cut the butterfly wing pattern out of foam and cut the green stuff in the same shape to match. The black and green is glued together with superglue. The wings themselves are superglued to the headphones and then were backed with hot glue (it holds well, but is lumpy and ugly so I put it where it can't be seen.)

The headphones themselves were actual headphones. I didn't build them.

  • Cool! My doesn't light up.

  • Okay... If you ever have the free time.. (you dont have too) but could you possibly message me the steps you did to make this? My friend and I are doing a miku and luka magnet and these seem killer sweet. I reallt want to know where you're putting the extra string of lights. Like I said.. You dont have to do.. But I will love you forever if you did. We're trying hard to save our money, so we dont wonna buy premade ones. But... Shank you ;)

  • APPLAUSE. I really wanna make a pair. just for normal use though, not for cosplay.

the light thing is so cool. but it just would not be very.. efficient I guess.

  • @YaoiKing69 Christmas lights xD
