The original Yiddish song (sung at the end) is by H Leyvick. The German translation is by Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger, (1924-1942) who died in a Nazi labor camp in Mikhilovka, Ukraine. Her poems were saved by several friends and fist published in Israel under the title "Blütenlese" by Hersch Segal in 1976, and then in Germany under a different title in 1980. English translation: "Harvest of Blossoms," Northwestern University Press, 2008. Highly recommended

Here my translation attempt.

1.Lay the head an my knees - so it's good to lie.

2.Little Children fall asleep - Big ones have to be dandled.

3.Children have toys alot - play when they want.

4.Big ones are their one game - always have to have. (always must - no choice)

5.Must not fear, I am here - won't cast you out.

6.You have cried enough today - like all the Big ones do.

7.You have cried and you have lamented - now I will dandle you.
