No one in the USA, perhaps. Macross was already quite popular in Japan before Robotech (although Southern Cross and Mospeada were not). I agree with everything else you said, though.

@VictorErol I heard that. I'm so sick of reading about the Macross/S. Cross/Genesis Climber vs. Robotech posts. It's cool seeing the original cartoons, but hands down Robotech has a much deeper storyline with more layers. The music is better, and it only takes a genius to combine those 3 different cartoons into 1 big storyline. Everyone needs to admit, no one would no about the 3 cartoons if it wasn't for Robotech.
