Gun control never works, I lived in Chicago and you couldn't own handguns yet all the criminals got them, gun control only affects the law abiding citizen. I guarantee this DC gun ban being repealed will decrease murders.

I am pretty sure it is not legal to own a gun in Washington D.C. Should that not make it one of the safest places on earth? Like the Nug says gun free votes are a criminals favorite place.

Does the ban on guns CREATE criminals, or do guns (whether banned or not) give people with criminal intentions a weapon to carry through with their intentions? <br> The issue is that there are many violent crimes being committed with guns, and citizens are trying to find ways to curb that violence. A gun ban (with strict enforcement) is one option. What other solutions can we offer to address the problem?

There has been a gun BAN in DC since 1976. You lose.

Although there is currently a ban on guns in DC, lax enforcement by authorities in the District, Maryland, and especially Virginia make it very easy for guns to get into the city. Some members of Congress are trying right now to repeal the gun ban, but many District residents are trying to fight this. However, because we don't have representation in Congress (because the District is not a state, but just a city), this makes it hard for our voice to make an impact.
