Rick Burgess, of the Rick & Bubba Show, took the opportunity to speak at the memorial service for his son William Bronner Burgess (also known as Cornbread on the show). Bronner had accidentally drowned in the swimming pool at their house. Rick delivers a powerful message showing his family's strong faith in God and helps us to understand what we can do to honor his Father and his son during this earthly tragedy. This is part 1 of 3. Check out www.rickandbubba.com for more on Rick.

I don't know you personally, Rick Burgess, and I don't have children of my own, but I know this is the worst thing a parent can ever do. My condolences on your loss, Rick, Sherri, and the entire Burgess family.
You're a far better man than I am.

Rick, this is the most powerful, moving, loving, and inspirational message that I have ever heard. Although I know that you'd say that we shouldn't follow your example since we should follow Christ's example. Thank you for the example that you are giving for everyone to follow not only in this message, but also in your daily radio shows in which you always express these same beliefs whenever there is an opportunity to do so. We pray for God to give you continued strength and peace. Rob Gilliam

Amazing words. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child, but Rick is right, who would love my child more than the Lord. God bless his family and all the families who have lost their children and, I pray peace and comfort come to them.

We should all hope to be as strong in the face of tragedy as Rick & his family are. Rick, you are an inspiration to all Christians. I wish your family the best & will continue to pray for you! God Bless You, Rick Burgess!

And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."

Rick's testimony is an amazing picture of the love and grace God gives to us during the trials we face in life. I have a dear friend who is a Christian Radio Personality who just lost a 5 year old son in a tragic accident. I know this testimony will be a help to him.

his family and i go to the same church. it's tragic that his son died, but they are using that swimming pool to glorify God instead of blaming Him for what has happened. That takes faith and courage.

Rick, I don't know you or share your faith (I'm Muslim) but when I chanced upon this video, it brought tears to my eyes. I pray to Allah to give you and your family the strength to get through this. Bronner is in heaven with Prophet Abraham; it's where all the children go in the Islamic faith.
Be strong. Be safe. And know that someone prays for you and your family from 3000 miles away.

Ryan,if you're reading or any R&B fan, please inform me how this happened. When I lived in Nashville, I became good friends with Rick,Bill(Bubba),Calvin(Speedy),(Don Juan)DeMarco, and yourself. If you look at my login name, it might draw a clue,we hung out together from '99-'03 when I was a DJ.I now live in Phoenix. Thanks!
