This is a type XVIII sword - not designed primarily for slicing - it's a compromise cut and thrust sword. A type X-XII european sword would cut more like a katana, and have a better chance of going right through, like a katana.

No you're right, a good katana in the right hands would chop you right in half, and so would a good type XIIa in the right hands.
This was just a very amateur display.

@jesusgabrielterron Depends on the wielder. The katana is amazing, but it's not a win-all weapon.

Absolutely - gawd it's horrid what devices people have conceived to kill each other.

@harumba2 despite his ameturish display. he showed just how terribly powerful a sword can be.

@AlienZygote010 well just the same, it was a foolish statement from a noobler at the time. Ive come to get annoyed as hell by posts like those so when i see where i used to be that way i like to correct it

@xxwes997xx nothing at all to apologize for. i was mainly posting that for people who would read comments. japanese blades were made for agility, not brute force. they are amazing at what they are meant for. just like there is no ultimate caliber for any type of firearm. they all have their own properties and purposes.
For a test like this he should be using a far superior company like Albion or Del Tin.

@iirainey
Or a Fable Blade :-)
Probably no help to a completely unskilled user. True though, they should have had the test performed by someone who knows how to cut, and with a well made sword.

Not in his hands I doubt. I think the problem is the novice wielder not the sword. Though Hanweis are not known for great edge geometry on their medieval stuff. If it were a GOOD Medieval sword it would cut as well as a good Katana.
