This is the first selelction off of the "Tracking the Hurricanes: 2004" DVD that was released in late 2004. The 2-hour DVD documents the entire 2004 hurricane season from hurricane Alex in August to hurricane Jeanne in late September. Alex struck the Outer Banks of North Carolina on August 3, 2004 as a category two hurricane. HurricaneTrack.com was there to collect data and video of the event. This clip has been edited from the original DVD version to conserve time. For the complete DVD, visit HurricaneTrack.com and click on the store button on the homepage. There will be additional selections from the 2004 DVD as well as the extraordinary 2005 DVD- including hurricane Katrina in Mississippi.

  • My family and I have been vacationing on Hatteras Island since 1994. I love weather and I love storms. We were in Frisco for harricane Dennis. I wanted to stay so bad it was killing me. My husband said no because we had our 2 year old son and my sister inlaws children with us. After seeing this fantastic video I would not think twice about evacuating for a hurricane on Hatteras. Thank you for what you do. I wish I could do it.

  • Thanks for watching. It is an incredible job but one that puts us in harm's way often. We also see great loss. It is tough to balance the fascination with hurricanes against the impacts they have on people.

  • i seen a show on how to kill a hurrican

  • We need hurricanes. Without them, there would be something worse. Hurricanes are a release valve for heat on our planet. We just happen to live in their way.

  • i remember this storm it was brutal when it struck us i was scared out of my witz :O

  • I remember being in Nags Head in when Alex struck . We were staying in a friends house that was rather old. I remember my dad was looking out the window trying to see if any trees would hit the house (hes an engineer). It was reallly scary! The funny part was my mom was gone the whole day shopping and later that week I bought a shirt that said I Survived Hurricane Alex

  • I was in Avon when this happened with my cousins and family, had to go tie down the deck furniture in 100 mph gusts that was blowing 30-40 pound deck furniture across the deck like a plastic bag. 7-9 foot storm surge I believe, insane for a non-evacuation.

  • I was in hatteras at the ferry docks durring alex (I worked there)

  • i seen that 2 on the discovery channel. it seemed pretty convincing, but it ultimately had terrible consequences

  • This here is some serious tedious shit
