  • Can't believe that there's hardly any armco along the mulsanne straight, very unnerving at that speed! Having said that this is a great piece of footage, still reckon the porsche 936 could hold its own against the modern open-tops which look really ugly and have zero character.

  • i hope that Porsche consider to comback to Le Mans and blow them again away

  • 凄い!! 936 マジで速い!!ユノディエールが6㎞だった頃のド迫力!!

    音もよいです。

  • one thing i've never understood about racing "back in the day", how the hell did the drivers actually fit in the cars, i mean their balls must have been the size of your average planet?

  • great stuff

  • amazing vid... thanks for sharing.

  • Right on all counts...with one rider. The 917 did 240 only once: in April 1971 at an unofficial test weekend. 935 was clocked by the ACO radar at 217, which is still plenty quick. Group C did 230+ and two cars did 400kmh or better (Sauber and Peugeot).

  • Yeah: I agree, it's Ickx. The helmet is a give away.

Ickx won the 1977 event with Gijs van Lennep so I'm not sure what you mean.

  • 917-30 never raced at Le Mans. It was a Can Am car only.

Maximum power for a 917 at Le Mans was 630bhp. Never did 400kmh either. Top claimed speed is 386. Speed trap for 1971 - the year of the Langheck - was 361.2kmh. These are official figures from the Le Mans speed trap. They are published every year in the Autotechnica Le Mans Annual.

The only car to do 258 was a Peugeot on a closed road test. Porsche NEVER did this. Highest speed ever for Porsche was 393 kmh by H-J Stuck in 1988.

  • Those Martini cars were badass!!!

  • da newer protos seem slower coz dey put 2 chicanes along da Mulsane straight!
