People have used lavender for centuries and for all sorts of things from perfume, soap, shampoo and bath salts to medicine and food. Today the lavender fields near Puimoisson are an enormous tourist attraction.
Lavender, flower of eternity, flourishes best in dry and sun-drenched soil. In the old days people used to pick the wild lavender on the ridges, later cultivating it more systematically. This was a great success and the hills slowly changed into a purple carpet land. The soil in this area is an excellent nutrient for wild lavender; one of the two types of lavender, the other is a cultivated variety.
