A Timelapse film of the Total Eclipse of the Moon 3rd March 2007.

Shot and edited in the same night, and uploaded to YouTube before daylight.

Filmed in the night Sky above Godalming, Surrey, UK.

I filmed this using a Sony PD170. The whole eclipse was filmed in real time, then speeded up in the edit. Everything is real, all the zooms and the flare happened as you see them, nothing was added in the edit. Everyshot is locked off and one pass of the moon across the screen represents about 15 minutes of real time.

Note the aeroplane that passes a couple of minutes into the video.

Thanks to Tom of Ginger Beats for the music.

  • how do people tell if an eclipse a lunar or a solar eclipse ?

  • Well, if it happens when the sun is out it's a solar eclipse. If it happens at night you can usually assume it's a lunar eclipse...

  • when doe's the plane come by?

  • At 1:53 - I filmed the whole thing in real time, so I was able to pause the timelapse and return to real time when the plane passes. You don't see the body of the plane, just its lights flashing. It passes from the top of the screen, right next to the moon, then out through the bottom of the screen.

  • what does a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse do? too curious

  • I'v seen one of the lunar eclipses at night, it wasn't red like it would be during the day it as blue

  • @Burt521 oh cuz i liv in the mountain time zone... so i wil figure it out! :) its prob at midnight tho......

  • @MissXoxoLuv well for me it starts at 12:15 and is a 3 hour and 28 minute process from covering the moon to going over the moon and I live in Alabama so whichever timezone your in you just gotta do the math bro

  • omg...wat time is the nxt lunar eclipse which is on december 21st?

  • @misterpopvideo Actually, no offense but, a more specific definition is that in a solar eclipse, the sun is obsructed by the moon and a lunar eclipse is the earth obstructing the suns rays from the moon. but like you said, the lunar eclipse does happen at night and the solar eclipse does happen during the day.

  • Это же просто голубая луна!))

  • That's so cool to see it change phases (not really changing phases) but it's cool to see it turn dark :)
