  • I think playing the Klingons can be a bit confusing for a beginner. On one hand, disruptor can be fired every turn. But on the other hand, it has the lowest crunch power. He has to be patient and play like a wolf steadily wearing out its prey. A player who prefers close in slugfest should play the Feds or the Romulans or the Gorns instead.

  • @Waterflux I agree, and they are so different than the Klingons from the later Trek Klingons ("today is a good day to die!")!

  • just to clarify, I'm playing the board game version of this and trying to understand the mystified "saber dance," but this is the only actual explanation of the term I can find on the internet. So essentially if the opponent starts to just absent-mindedly run straight at you with everything they've got, you can't go back to saber dancing until they have taken enough damage to force them to turn?

  • @doctdog I haven't played the board game, but that is how it has worked out for me in SFC. If they run at you at speed 31 and try to catch you, the best thing to do is turn off the disruptors and only use the phasers to wear down their front shield. Range 15 is good, but you might also try range 8 for the extra damage (and risk of more damage to yourself). The good thing is that the Klingon ships have great phaser arcs (100% can usually fire straight behind).

  • @doctdog (continued)... and the Klingons can also fly at speed 31 with the power to arm a good number of phasers. Chances are, the person running at you can either fire or chase, but not both like you can. Once their front shield is gone, they either get phaser-gutted slowly or they turn away (back to the Dance). And if they do fire everything at you, like proximity torpedoes, you can decide if you want to start chasing them before they reload. Good luck!

  • nice concise run through of the saberdance!

  • Thanks! I have been slow making another video but it will happen :)

Indeed. Now that I am thinking about it, in the first page of the user manuel, they should even add a paragraph:

Do NOT attempt stunts that you have seen from Star Trek shows and movies in SFC, unless you have a death wish! Repeat the following mantra: 'Trek shows/movies are not war colleges!' Wash, rinse, dry, repeat the cycle.

The only episode that comes close to proper SFC Klingon tactic is 'Elaan of Troyius' (TOS). Keep on moving & strafing.

  • TY Knight!

  • Nice vid Roy. You are an awesome ridgehead.
