Tanker drivers from the Horsham Council have been pumping water out of Mckenzies creek,a waterway that has endangered flora and fauna, and only occasionally gets water due to past drought restrictions.
The Horsham Council,or workers from, run a tanker back and forth all weekdays, draining it of it much needed water.
Fish, frogs, lizards, that have not been seen for years are dying and my heart is breaking.
Many rare species of butterfly's and birds are found along it's banks.
The Wimmera river is full(in the town centre) and surely the council could take it openly in town rather than secretly spiriting it(water) away 6 kilometres out of town, away from the public eye.
They run a very quiet pump in a very well hidden spot by the McKenzie Creek bridge.
Public records indicate that they are allowed to collect storm water from drains, but this is not a drain,it is a beautiful creek that they are killing,so please help stop this enviromental vandalism by complaining to every relevevant action group or governing body you can think of,somebody has to save our rivers, especially the small fragile McKenzie Creek. The frogs are dying because it drying out,I have found many.
Also, come summer it will now be a dry high fire risk area, fuelled by a mass of bone dry wood that would have been a lot wetter with water in the creek.
As I was nearly burnt by the recent Remlaw fire,I,and many others are wondering when is this council going to wake up. Just stop now!!
