No you don't understand, Slater made the pro-bowl for special teams, not defense. I'm just saying ebner is a more cut out saftey than Slater(who is a WR!)

Slater is very important to the team (but I guess making the Pro Bowl is nothing), and they'll only compete in special teams, so I don't think it's one or the other.

I think I understand why they drafted him now...
The dynamics for tackling in rugby are so much different than in football. In football, athletes can sometimes settle for a big hit, as opposed to rugby's emphasis on wrapping up and completing the tackle. Something which Brandon Merriweather never really got...
I think Ebner will make the team, possibly some day play safety. Who knows. He seems to have a great sense of where the ball is going.
