The indicator looked like a Schindler.

Scanlon Building here in Leominster, Mass., did just that thing. Ripped out an older Otis that was only getting 10FPM, completely replaced it with a new 100FPM model, that almost looks like it's always been part of the building.
Just saying it's a possibility....

Maybe I can explain why it's a death-trap : If I look at the indicator, I recognize the Schindler numbers. So, I think this elevator have been modernized and this kind of problem happens often when they get modernized.

@coolsebas14 That indicator is generic, and all they really did was install an automatic door, new button panel, and a voice box (which GSU has done to all elevators on campus).

That's not an early elevator. It's a new Otis. They do cars like that to look like they were made in the 1910-1920 era. I don't see any problem with the elevator, it's working as it should.

That building was built in 1901. I don't know why they would tear out an old elevator just to install a replica again.
