Well, I decided that another trek out to the tracks was in order that morning, hoping there would possibly some good BNSF action. I wasn't let down. A parade of frieghts followed the morning Amtrak 701. Starting out with fog cutting visiblity to less than a mile, the late morning is soon filled with sun shine all around. With the BNSF 4056's train, quite a suprise in power:
BNSF Dash-9 4056
BNSF GP39-2 2860
ATSF/BNSF (Unpatched) Dash-9 662 (Patch wore off)
ATSF/BNSF (Unpatched) Dash-9 628 (Patch wore off)
BNSF Dash-9 4628

  • There is no grade here what so ever. Hanford is located in the central valley of CA, right on the floor of the valley. The reason behind the power is the because all of the trains either are going or have come over Tehachapi Pass. Trying searching "Tehahcapi Loop" sometime and you'll see what kind of grades are on that pass.

  • Thanks, was hard to tell.

  • nice video! is there a grade by you? because they all have a lot of locomotives.... is there another reaso for this?? thanks!

  • 2nd unit is 628
