On June 12 and 13, 2010, the Illinois Railway Museum commemorated the Railway Mail Service by having former Railway Post Office clerks make actual mail catches from a moving train. In this video, RPO car CB&Q 1923 drops off and takes on bags of real mail in front of our East Union station. The Union Postmistress was on hand, selling stamps and commemorative cachets (to benefit the restoration of the RPO car) and doing the traditional duties of hanging the outgoing bag on the mail crane and retrieving the incoming bag after the train had passed.
