-I pretty much abandoned judo/jiujitsu once I learned shuai jiao/chin-na and truly understood it in depth. It is far superior to a lot of the common grappling style arts that are out there now. Much better for the street too. I trained both these arts in traditional kung-fu, and also studied them as separate arts as well. Truly devestating on the street when balanced with other training.

@daspense yeah, but how do you think people learned them? all a dvd is, is a book put into motion. books are how forms are passed down. from book form to audio form to a visual representation and animation of what is being done. so tell me. how is watching a dvd that much different then reading ancient scrolls and text from recent elders? dont forget about training partners and people who already know martial arts can benefit from what this has to teach. your a derp

@089hlj what are your thoughts on aikido? this seems very similar but chinese instead of japanese

Zhang Tie Quan uses Shuai Jiao as primary wrestling style while using Sanshou as stand-up style. This folk wrestling has been proven effective, even in the octagon. I'm not Chinese but I got to learn about this art through Zhang Tie Quan. He's currently practicing BJJ and he's a great fighter.
This is coming from a average Muay Thai fighter who enjoys MMA. Shuai Jiao is proven effective. May not be the most recommended, preferred art but it's effective and that's all it matters.

kung fu is main martial art n consists of techniques of all fighting styles including the techniques of karate n jiu jutsu. there r thousands of styles from shaolin and some of the effective grappling techniques of this kung fu has lead to jiu jutsu martial art n there r thousands of grappling techniques from chinese kung fu but shuai jiao here i see is one of the basics of throwing n is a short way of throwing an opponent. its a bit like taichi wrestling itself

some of the hardest throws i've ever seen were Shaui Jiao, they had to do them in sand. really respect this art, has something to offer any practioner of the acts. very very practical and simple.

@dukenukem001 don't compare sport fights to martial arts. Sport fights=rules martial arts don't have rules of combat, you can do more than in the ring. Only because shitty MMA fighters don't train this doesn't mean that the style is bad it just may mean it's not adjustable to sport fights

really similar to ancient chuan fa & Chinese kenpo grapplings

You cant learn martial arts through a dvd.
Shuai Jiao is both an aspect of most Chinese martial arts, and a style unto itself. Its actually one of the oldest Chinese styles. Dr. Yang learned shuai jiao with several masters while studying long fist, white crane, and taijiquan kung fu. There are a couple lifting throws. They look alike because takedowns/throws are universal to all styles, from all cultures. The DVD focuses on 25 of the most fundamental and practical throws. The narration in the DVD is by Dr. Yang himself. YMAA dot com
