A near miss while paragliding over the Great Orme, North Wales 17/04/2010.
Low airtime pilot flying fast downwind almost collides with an other pilot.
Lesson No1. Always look where you are going! Another second or two and this could have proved fatal especially as he had no emergency parachute installed!
This was shot with a very wide angle lens and was actually much closer than it appears. I have posted this as a reminder to all pilots to be aware of others around them while flying......

  • its a shame some people don't realise the effects that this could of had ive had it happen to me a few time on busy ridges but there you have tons of room i think he got fixated to you

  • @TheScottypom

Thanks for your comments. Yes, The Great Orme is one of my favorite flying sites in Britain. When you get a little height above, the view becomes fantastic. sometimes you can see the Isle of Man and right over the Snowdon range. If you want we can give you a tandem flight from here. Just let me know......An experience you'll never forget!

  • you were lucky, a nice day out could have changed with that idiot, hope you enjoy many more "safe" flights

  • I enjoy watching you guys when out sailing below you, thought I might like to give it a try. After watching this I think I will stick to the briny...good video, well done!

  • Do you have any steady HD aerial footage of the great orme?

  • @murrayhay Well Murray as you are the only pilot to have posted on this and have actually had a aerial collision AFAIK, you have either actually learnt your lesson or you are showing that tremendous sense on irony that you have.

Either way it is the duty of all flyers to avoid aerial collisions.

  • I think I would have landed after the 2nd close call too. All that airspace available and presumably a massively wide lift band too. Scary scenario, glad your OK :o)

  • The filming glider appears to be stationary, 2:33 "hardly moving forward at all". The blue glider was flying on a course that would cause a collision. It is the pilots responsibility to take all possible measures to avoid a collision with any other aircraft. I believe the blue glider failed to do this by not being able to see what was in front of him on the course he was flying.
