Fantastic to see, after waiting for years, this historic performance, with both Moedl and Dermota in superb form.

Martha Mödl - one of Germany's greatest Sopranos ever. She never saw herself as a "Prima Donna" - just a devoted singer who loved her profession.
-
One of the best performances of Fidelio I ever heard - Böhm conducted with a temperament I never hard in his studio recordings, Mödl was in very good vocal condition, and Dermota is the best Florestan ever!

I first saw this production at the National Archives Film Division in College Park, MD USA as part of a documentary film "Call To Freedom" from 1956 by NBC. It should be part of every class on European or World History. You can access the description online through the NARA Archival Research Catalog.

And Dermota substituted for Patzak. Dermota sang don Ottavio a night before.

Now this is BEETHOVEN!

Es lebt Beethoven. Long live Beethoven. Vielen Dank. Many thanks.

Spectacular!!! Thanks so much!
Why aren't there more posts with Dermota? One of the best tenors in the post war era. Modl of course such an expressive voice.
