  • Just goes to show: Bette can put on a great show anytime, anywhere.

  • My cousin invited me to this place called the baths (never heard of it), I walk in and see a swimming pool, guys,...this is nuts I thought..don't leave my cousin said. Midnight, she sang this song, I was blown away and made it a point to be there every Sat. for the show. I anxiously waited, for months, the release of her first ablum and turned all my friends on to her. I knew I was seeing a star being born and did not miss any of her Broadway shows...how luck can I be!!

  • just electric! i hope the younger generation discovers this side of bette...her deserved diva status may be a stopgate for younger listeners who think she is just a "grande dame"....but the fire, the passion here is still kindled in her every performance... that is the power of a diva...the heart and energy expended...each note...each word...

  • My hair stands on end whenever I hear Midler sing this.

  • "..they say everything can be replaced..." Who? Liars...you can't replace your memory, and if you can't do that, it all sticks. As it probably should.

  • what amazes me most is that this song was current when she was singing this...just about a year old

  • @tgoddess yup Barry - towel and all - he got paid and a "room" for the night

  • wow, that some power in that song

  • I saw bette in london in 1978. she was very good and great to her audience/s, the night i went i was so excited, i nearly forgot to breathe!! (and didnt she develop performance of this song through the decades.)

  • Any incarnation of Bette doing "I Shall Be Released" in worthy of celebration, and this might be at the top of the heap.

  • @Livingallalone - Live, and singing with all of her heart, at the Baths, with all of the intensity of a Madison Square Garden performance. She was ready, even then.

  • What a fireball of emotion, from the beginning of her career.....so much inside, just wanting to get out. I love you so much, Bette. You've been a constant source of inspiration, pure joy, and total comfort thru the years to so many.
