for those not as familiar with history when this movie was made the "democrats" were the precursor to the modern day republican party.

ya know...the "ya cant make me go to school with colored people" democrats from the south that got so pissed that no one was interested in living in the world of yesterday that they split from the party eventually over the next 20 - 30 years.

sounds like they might be repeating themselves. i guess an education would be good for something.

@slingshot2427 I have also worked with Libertarians on a number of levels politically. I would disagree with you that, though there are differences, being socially different is not one of those. One part of the platforms of both parties is that government should not be involved in a citizens life. The Republicans have a couple exceptions to that, but generally speaking the two parties are nearly identical involving that issue.

@slingshot2427 I wasn't writing in a comparable way. I've read extensively about Hope and his life. Though a strong Republican (I worked a Republican event with him), his views of many things was a bit more Libertarian.

I certainly know the difference between Republicans and Libertarians. I've been trying to point out to many Republican friends who claim to lean Libertarian that the difference is too strong. You can be one but not the other.
