@microwaveshowfan My latest work has been a collaboration on the Lego NXT Monster Chess project. That has left little time do do other things on my own.

You have firmware 1.28. This, I guess, is Lego firmware. While this is compatible with NXC, JH's Enhanced NBC/NXC Firmware may be more suitable, as it supports more of the commands (e.g. ClearScreen();). Having said that, The latest Lego firmware may be more flexible than the version that came with my NXT 1.0's. Seeing as NXT-G 2.0 seems to have utilities such as a "Brick Joystick", Lego may have decided to be more supportive. Can someone please confirm this,

There is the latest Lego V1.28 and there is a John Hansen enhanced V1.28. Both have a significant reduction in their memory footprint when compared to the older V1.05's, leaving more space for your own programs. Both are available as free downloads.
Both these firmwares have been also optimized, so they run your programs significantly faster than before.
NXT-G 2.0 has some nice new features, but it is tough to compete with those offered by the BricxCC Command Center.
