GET WELL SOON IAN - SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR ILLNESS - BEST WISHES FROM ALL OF YOUR FANS

The making of 'The New Price is Right' in Melbourne Australia. This was a feature shown on Wombat - a BTQ 7 Brisbane childrens program screened across the Seven Network, hosted by Fiona McDonald.

The New Price Is Right aired on the Seven Network from 1981-1986 with down-to-earth host Ian Turpie and announcer John Deeks.

Upon its launch, it originally aired after midday (together with Wheel of Fortune). The show's immense popularity in Australia destined the NPIR (in a 30 minute format) for 7pm primetime in Brisbane and 6pm most other capitals. When ratings declined, the NPIR moved back to later afternoon viewing and in an hour long format(and with the big wheel).

The 'Price Is Right' was revived as a hour-long version by Network Ten in 1989. Ian Turpie was again the compere, but this time for a Saturday night show (7.30pm timeslot). In the face of the stiff competition of 'Hey Hey it's Saturday', the show lasted only twelve episodes. It was then left to the Nine Network to bring the PIR back on Australian screens in 1993.

After two long runs on Nine, Australians can now only view the USA PIR through the Foxtel W Channel.

  • Although it doesn't surprise me that there is an Australian version of The Price is Right, I do find this version more interesting than our American Price is Right.

  • @Seattlecarnut I have to say the aussie versions were much better than the US PIR but I'm not bias - am I?

  • It seems like the end of this is cut off...is there any more? I'm trying to find my Mum somewhere in the footage!

  • This is the lot of it...no more, your mum probably was in the crowd hoping to come on down!!!

  • Pity no episodes of the Australian Press Your Luck have turned up.

  • @pugsley2005 Unless you're from Australia, or live in Australia.

  • The US Price is RIght left Australian screens momentarily but has returned on Foxtel's Arena channel - still showing season 38 though, wish they'd catch up more

  • Those Marconi Mark VIII cameras were also used by KTVF Channel 11 here in Fairbanks, Alaska as their first color cameras in the early '70s. They thought they were cheaper than the RCA, Norelco, and GE cameras that dominated the US television field at the time.

  • What were the names of the songs in this video!

  • Wow, that wheel look so colorful.

  • It may have been, but it sounded like Joan Jett.

  • Really? Lucky you!
