When it's sleepy time down south, (Clarence Muse / Otis Rene / Leon Rene), another great melody from the golden age of jazz. Louis Armstrong made this song famous and I love to play it on gigs as it reminds me of sipping cool Jax beer and eating fried chicken and rice with musicians in the back courtyard of Orange Kellin's holiday apartment in the French Quarter of New Orleans ...quite a few years ago now. You often heard it playing on the jukebox in Lafitte's Blacksmiths Shop pub just over the garden wall. That's where I go when I'm playing it on my old Selmer SBA.

  • Hi Ian.

Well i might be a lte starter after reading you started at 16 but you give me great inspiration, and you play that track really laid back and smooth nice one.

    Regards

    Chris

Hi Chris, well it's never too late to start. I took up jazz guitar 4 years ago, and it's great fun. I can't practice it for a couple of days as I've got a sore little finger on my left hand at the moment and I'm resting it. Ian

  • Hi Tonsun, I started playing sax when I was 16 too, and it was one of the better decisions of my life. Apart from being a great way to make a few quid, it has taken me to places I would never have seen otherwise and has given me a circle of musician friends I still play and correspond with. I've played in Switzerland, Turkey, New Orleans, the Shetlands and Orkney ...and in between my legs!

Although I must say I am absolutely befuddled by how you play inbetween your legs; haha I could never do that
