Episode 2: The Empire of Reason.
Physicist Jim Al-Khalili travels through Syria, Iran, Tunisia and Spain to tell the story of the great leap in scientific knowledge that took place in the Islamic world between the 8th and 14th centuries. He travels to Syria to discover how, a thousand years ago, the astronomer and mathematician Al-Biruni estimated the size of the earth to within a few hundred miles of the correct figure. In Cairo, he tells the story of the physicist Ibn al-Haytham, who helped establish the science of optics.

  • A channel like BBC has broadcasted this program just because it is no rubbish. People who seek knowledge watch this video. Others kindly turn on to other sites where such comments are welcomed.

  • Try to use these informative sites to learn, or educate yourself and not to throw "garbage" at one other. That is not "good manners".

  • It is disgusting to see such comments from learned men/women. What the author tries to convey is not the "Islam in science" he says what is the Islamic view of science. And he has obviously made his statement very clear - That according to Islam - Science is not religious. Science is knowledge of the world to human benefit. And that is why, Greek, Persian, Syrian and Indian knowledge were accumulated by Islamic scholars.

  • @MihaiBorcan may allah bless you. brother the word doens't make sense. westing time. if you dont understand something that doess't mean its wrong. think deeply, what said.

  • @grubelsucht The whole basis of scientific knowledge cannot be proven as solid fact. Even fundamental things like E=mc^2 are being revised as we speak. Its amusing, from an objective viewer, to really observe this contradiction that most of these YouTube comments seem to carry. You claim that this Muslim person has been blinded by a certain doctrine or ideology; that his claims of God cannot be proven as such. But how can we prove evolution? We have good suggestive evidence. One must always ask.

  • @grubelsucht Its interesting how you make a reference towards backward apelike creatures when you have to resort to thin insults at a thing you consider 'smoke from the flame of consciousness' just to get a reaction out of a fervent follower of this religion. To me, it appears you are incapable of presenting a proper argument and really, your words boil down to nothing but all but objective remarks. Sounds like you're mad that someone has pride in who they are.

  • @111theone1able You failed to mention how your perspective differs from established science. Despite being born into the deliberate ignorance of Islam, you might avail yourself of the myriad YT videos depicting beyond doubt humans evolution from earlier apelike creatures. On another note, I do not give you permission to censor my harmless speech. Allah and gods are smoke from the flame of consciousness that clouds and obscures clear thought. So fuck allah, fuck all gods.

  • @grubelsucht evolution is a fact but not totally correct from my perspective yes we do chang from a generation to another but we did not evolve from apes and i am a muslim and pix stop swearing

  • @moddykindy Islamic "scientists" and scholars did the same thing that other from every other culture, every other religion did. They discovered and recorded new knowledge. The Quran is not knowledge. It tells us nothing. It tells us even less when we discover it is factually incorrect.

  • @moddykindy What??? You know the Quran is full of wrong suras. As in they say something about the world that has been found to be totally wrong.
