This really is a beautiful thing to see but wonder why the person videoing cut out the two most eventful parts...when the baby elephant fell in and when the baby elephant was pulled out. Sorry but that's kinda stupid.

I agree it would have been great to capture the baby elephant falling in. But then filming nature is a once only event - I have just finished filming the herds arrival at the waterhole and did not anticipate that one in 300 elephants would fall in. I had just finished filming when 3 seconds later the baby fell in. Then having just completed a weekend of filming in the reserve, our memory discs were all full, we ran out of space and missed the exit scene.

It is amazing just how smart and compassionate these animals are. I can't think of too many species that would put this much of a group effort into saving a child that likely didn't belong to all but one of them.

Elephants use tools, mourn their dead, communicate on many levels, retain cultural memory, and are self-aware.

Elephant brains are born at 35% their adult weight, compared to 28% for humans. Scientists estimate that the elephant brain grows for about ten years, giving elephants an enormous amount of time to acquire knowledge. Like humans, elephants might depend more on learned behaviors than instinctual behaviors for survival. And that makes elephants and humans unique in the animal kingdom.

People don't go to heaven either.

But if there was a heaven there'd be more animals then people!
