Hi, Im Dave Andrews. Welcome to Syzygy Studios InSight!
Scott Brody has the week off, so its just you and me this week folks!
Lets start off with film news. There was a lot of activity at the box office as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince fell to second place at the domestic box office with the release of G-Force.
Thats right, the great wizard was bested by a bunch of rodents. Wouldnt Scabbers, AKA Wormtail be proud! The little Guinea pigs just barely won out though, taking in $32.3 million against Potters estimated 30 million dollar weekend take. Potter may again take over the top spot once it expands to IMAX theaters, which are currently still showing Transformers 2
The only other place G-Force was released this past week was in Chile though, so our favorite lightning-scarred wizard still took the crown in the international box office, taking in another 84.4 million, making the take as of the end of last weekend worldwide a whopping 627 million dollars.
Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen is nearing the end of its box office run, but not before becoming the tenth highest grossing film of all time. Last weekend it passed the previous number ten, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, when it passed that films 377 million dollar take and landed at 379 million so far.
The San Diego Comic con seemed as successful as ever this year, in spite of the poorly performing economy. Fans were thrilled this year to get a glimpse of the next Iron Man movie, and female fans positively lost their minds when given a glimpse of New Moon, the sequel to vampire flick Twilight.
Every year, the con seems to be less and less oriented toward comic books, and more toward movies and TV shows. Its becoming one of the best fan-accessible gatherings of big and small screen stars anywhere.
Yet another bit of excitement coming out of ComiCon surrounded the release of the teaser trailer for the new Alice In Wonderland film. While this is a Disney film, like the 1951 animated version, you can bet this will not be a film for small children. Directed by Tim Burton and starring his two fave actors Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, this version will probably more closely match the darker, more serious story seen in the original book by Lewis Carroll. Lets take a look at the trailer for this new live action version of the story.
Believe it or not, that was not the most exciting trailer to be released from the Disney camp. Fans for the first time ever were able to see a new trailer for Tron 2, newly renamed Tron Legacy. Its pretty long, coming in at just under three minutes, but take my word for it, this trailer is worth a look.

  • Yeah, Tron came out in 1982 and was the most extensive use of computer graphics at the time in a film.

The 1st arcade game based on the movie was one of the greatest video games ever made.

I won one on a TV game show called Starcade that same year. It was AWESOME! I had to sell it when time got tough, but some day I'll get another one. Great arcade game!

  • I didnt find Tron's trailer nice at all

  • Yeah, "nice" is not a word I'd probably use for this either. More like "intense" and "inquisitive."

For instance, is Flynn a good guy or a bad guy here? Is the old bearded Flynn controlling the young beardless one in the yellow? 'sup with that?

But this is just a teaser trailer. I suspect it will be some months before we get regular trailers with more info.

  • Yeah, several young kiddies have no idea what Tron was and is about so are for the most part ignorant. Some are expressing that ignorane by leaving rude and crude comments on videos about Tron Legacy, some are trolling, and some are just clueless, confused, and/or unappreciative.

They don't understand that a new Tron film is like a dream come true for many that love the first Tron film. Btw, this trailer is actually proof of Concept" test footage to convince Disney to "greenlight" the film.

  • no wonder i've not heard of it

seems like you're a fan of this movie :)

think i'll be catching this movie along with alice in wonderland

  • i didnt watch tron 1. i cant even remember if tron 1 was shown in my country of residence. is tron a video game? cos if it is, its cool.
