Some more information about the title of the song itself:
- 99 is written as neunundneunzig, which are 3 words: neun und neunzig. Littlerly translated it means nine and ninety, but English-speaking people say ninety-nine.
- Luftballon means litterly translated "airballoon", so a balloon filled with air, but English-speaking people simply say "balloon".

Luftballons doesn't mean red balloons, "red" was just added in the English version because it fits better.
"red" in German is "rot", and "red balloons" would be "rote Luftballons" (the -e is added because "Luftballons" is plural).
