Vickers was a force of nature, one of kind performer. Although his B flats are great here of course didn't have the ease of Corelli up high (who does)? But Corelli could never have sung Tristan, Siegmund etc. Whatever..... they were both history making singers in their own way

that was like the most controlled Bb ive everheard.

Is it just me or is this recording compressed a little too much? It seems like the orchestra drowned him out on the first Bb more than it should have.

Vickers is one of the few dramatic tenors who can pull back the volume on that last note, as Verdi requested.

je ne vois pas ce que corelli vient faire là, Vickers est nettement suppérieur,et je ne parle pas d'Otello!!!!!ou il est le meilleur depuis 40 ans!!

I think the Price, Gorr, Vickers AIDA is the best recording on the market. I had the original RCA Victor set way back in the 1960's, and just got it on CD. Love it!!!!!!

Vickers is in a class of his own. His is a very special and unique rendition of this aria. Unlike others, but totally viable and beautifully delivered.

He has a great voice and he's also a gentleman. I'm a Canadian tenor and I met him at new york in 1997 at the wagnerian societe and it's been a pleasure to talk with this great artist.

PLEASE upload more from this amazing opera set; Vickers is my favorite Radames, truly heroic and tender; Price's Aida has never been surpassed, Gorr is the phenomenal Amneris, and it also has Merrill and Tozzi conducted by Solti! This is the only excerpt from it on YouTube!

Well glad you liked it! I've been enjoying it for years. Yes, heroic and tender describes Vickers here. I have more, but it may be a few days before I can get more uploaded...

London Records studio recording with the Rome Opera House Orchestra. I love the crescendo at the end just as I love the even more impressive diminuendo at the end of the Franco Corelli version. I'm not saying this performance can beat the Corelli, but it's certainly in the same league, & since I couldn't find another Vickers Celeste Aida on You Tube, I decided to try my hand at a post. I don't have any video so you'll have to settle for a slide show, but the music does the talking anyway. Enjoy!
