@joshuathemusician Honestly I am not stunned. I always say Mildred Falls biggest critics have always come from the Gospel world even while she was alive. The 'unchurched' ear always appreciated Mildred's playing. For me she will always be the best accompaniment for the legendary Mahalia Jackson and Mahalia and Mildred go together like Satchmo and his horn and B.B. King and Lucille (his guitar).

Mildred was Mahalia pianoist fro 1947-to the early 60son and off due to health and drink problems. She died just after Mahalia. I always likeed the way Ms Falls would play on song like didn't rain I think she was better than Edward Robinson.

My friend and band leader, Long John Baldry asked me to Mildred's style in many of his songs. He told me that he would play her records for Elton John when he started with Long John, which would explain where Elton got this Gospel sound. What a wonderful pianist.
