I have a bassid hound! her name is blossum and she is the most beautiful bassid ever! she has a great voice and loves to sing! Your dogs is sooo adorable too!

Amazing to see how well little Bassets have their "people" trained. Just one little whimper and.. sure enough, another doggie biscuit on the way. They're geniuses at this game. You just can't resist. But there's nothing quite like getting a Basset pup (like I did) at age 7. They're proof there must be a God out there. And boy do they love their families. Especially kids... the smaller the kid the better - and they do become very protective - watch out if they're with a small child.

@desertrat1111 Good question. The breed is of French origin. "Basset" actually means 'lowish'. They are hunting dogs.. no seriously. They were bred to be low to the ground, with great noses, and ears that would kick up a scent. The French have several varieties of Bassets, e.g. Basset d'Artois, Basset Griffon.... and a couple of others. The difference usually has to do with the length of their legs. They are still used as hunting dogs in Europe, but they make great pets. Great with kids.

I'm a Basset Hound freak. I rescued an adult Male from a breeder years ago, 1995! Unfortunately, My Basset has since gone off to the big boneyard in the sky, but I still miss him so much...after 10+ years.
In a moment of excruciating sadness/weakness; my partner and I "Fostered"(*) an Adult, Chocolate Lab from a Labrador Rescue. (*) Wrong on all parts, the "Fostering", of course, only lasted until he got in our car (Foster, my ass). In the next six months he continued to grow into an 8
