when has thenardier ever been played gay? please tell me you're either joking or just inane and ignorant. he's been played as a terrorizing poof from the very inception of the production in london c.1984. it's part of being "the clown." and, since you're clearly uneducated about theatre history, let me make clear: "clown" in theatre doesn't mean circus or bozo.... it means dark, comic, often "fey" character who checks the seriousness of the others while bringing a strong sense of truth.

I agree, well not entirely. This Thenardier is quite effeminate, and it's an odd interpretation. And on a completely different side note Mrs Thenardier is terrible. She steps over every single joke.
