A SIGNIFICANT PIECE OF NORFOLK'S CIVIL WAR HISTORY THAT WAS RUINED... HAS BEEN RESTORED.
THREE YEARS AGO... VANDALS DAMAGED ONE OF THE LARGEST PRIVATELY OWNED MAUSOLEUMS IN VIRGINIA. NOW... THE STATELY 100 YEAR OLD CRYPT LOCATED IN ELMWOOD CEMETARY HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND REDEDICATED. IT IS THE RESTING-PLACE OF TWO PROMINENT CIVIL WAR-ERA NORFOLK CITIZENS.... JOHN H. AND MARTHA ANNE CORE.
@GooglFascists riiiiight what is it with you funndies and the occult?

Another aspect of this is the occult. Practitioners of occult rituals
look for bones & artifacts in tombs & mausoleums because
its much easier than digging up a coffin.
Years ago they sometimes buried relatives with valuables so
if descendants got into financial trouble they could find help
in the family graveyard.
After all, who normally looks for coins & jewery in a coffin?

Since the $100000 he left was worth about $2.25 million in todays' money, I think someone fucked him over long before the vandals got there.

I guess they have to make assumptions about why the break in occured. The news article made no indication that the perpetrators will still at large. Will probably never be solved. It amazes me what people will go through to potentially steal something. All that damage, for what? No such thing as respect these days, for the living or the dead. It's all about greed.

It didn't mention if jewelry was stolen from the remains, so I assume that they did all this damage and left with nothing? Unless there are no records indicating if the remains contained jewelry upon burial. Since it was so long ago that they deceased departed I assume that perhaps they can't verify if jewelry was remained on the remains and was stolen or not.

Very sad.
However, I don't think there is a mausoleum out there that is immune to this. I think most will suffer this fate eventually - "Eternity" is a really, really long time.

Very interesting. Thank-you for posting this. I don't understand these morons who costantly vandalise cemeteries and mausoleums. It's disgusting and downright immoral.
