It is very...interesting seeing how well that would work. The only problem for me is that Kaworu just sort of looked like Kaworu with a mullet, though that might just be that my familiarity with bishounen standards leads me to seeing him as male by default.

No I understand where you're coming from, Kaworu(Kawori) still looks like a bishounen in drag here. Most of the seitenkan art makes her kind of androgynous though, so the reverse trap Kaworu might have been intentional.

Thank god for minuscule mercies. Shinji looks like a young Yui by just adding longer hair. I mean Gendo created Rei in the first place to have a replacement Yui and cause Instrumentality to see Yui again.

Who knows how different Shinji's treatment by Gendo would have been if he was a girl or effeminate?

By the relationship Rei has with Gendo, I don't think it would be good. A girl Shinji looks much more like Yui than Rei does....I think Gendo would like that, the sick bastard.

Shinji does look like Yui, and giving him the same hairstyle mama had (and breasts) probably isn't helping. Gendo doesn't seem to care too much though, which I guess makes it ironic that he's so intent on hurting the closest thing to naturally look like her.

Who knows though, if Shinji had actually been female or fullblown trap(he's already pretty feminine so it wouldn’t take much) that might have made all the difference and Gendo would start to project on her, que the Yui trap video.

It kind of makes sense that he would, Shinji already looked a lot like a girl, it seems that he takes after his mother and Rei (see the "Kaworu Makeup Artist" video for another quasicanon event of the sort) in looks. So getting his hair lengthened and eyebrows plucked would basically result in a young Yui face.

I wonder if looking just like a miniYui would have changed the way characters treated Shinji.

I still think Shinji looks more like Mari from from Rebuild this way than Yui. Just give him some glasses. Yuo can see it in the scene where Mai crashes into him.
