This year, when choosing potted plants for our garden, we made sure to buy plants that used peat pots. Peat pots break down and don't leave waste to be thrown away in a landfill. Instead, peat pots use the natural recycling ability of the soil to turn the pot back into usable material for next year's plants.

Learn about peat pots and why you should choose them for your potted plants.

  • how can I make sure the roots break through the peat pot, I have these ones that look like cardboard paper mache and they seem too strong

    I dont want root-bound plant...any advice?

  • @gootch420 Use a pen and poke holes in it, or score the sides with a razor blade knife. Hope that helps!

  • u suck total ass

  • You are a very pleasant individual. Thank-you for making the time to comment on my video.

  • You can find pots made with recycled newspaper straw and box trimmings. There are also pots available made out of grain husks that are a great alternative to plastic and expensive Terracotta pots. Sorry to come on so strong but I was really shocked when I looked in to the peat moss industry and it's environmental impact.

  • No worries about strong opinions. The green movement (and the world really) need more people with strong opinions who know how to express and convey their perspective, and back it up with facts and alternatives to the status quo. So, thank-you for letting me know, as I knew peat was a better alternative to plastic, but didn't know about the environmental ramifications in harvesting/producing peat (which I'm learning about now thanks to you)!

  • Glad I could help.

  • Was comparing peat to plastic, but what suggestion(s) would you offer instead? Definitely open to whatever alternatives you might know of and we can offer them to the whole GreenJoyment community.

  • Peat is a terrible option peat collection is awful for the environment and not a sustainable resource. Peat bogs are destroyed during the collection process as well as the plants and animals that inhabit peat bogs. Seems like you would know this if you were really Greenwise.
