you have to clean the carborator out. and also that's why it is back firing, working on that issue myself.
no flames should be shooting out. check under the deck after it is completely off and see if there anything under the deck on top of deck remove debris. you could have gas in the oil now since the carborator is dirty you will need to clean the carb, soak it in solution over night dry it out throughly and then replace the gaskets too.

@JohnDeere1317 if it turns over slow when hot and backfires and also sometimes smokes and quits while running or maybe some of that but not extremely bad your valves need to be ajusted there are videos on youtube of how to do that or you can take it to someone that should solve the problem.
