July 2010 - looking down onto the main deck level, toward the stern. A conserved hull plank is craned back into position.

  • Yup.. there was a big fire. Everything would have been destroyed had she not been in mid restoration at the time. They had pretty much stripped her of everything, masts, deck houses and many fittings to do this.  It was all safely stored away. Her iron frame didn't burn but much of the remaining planking on the hull did. Now being completely restored with a £10m grant. Once complete, she will be great once again.

  • Did she truthfully burn up? I went to see her in 2000. I feel terrible about the fire if there was one. I live in Canada and never heard.
