India BANS Headscarves in College Classrooms!

In India, students have began protesting and boycotting, particularly at Karnataka college, because of a controversial ban on the wearing of headscarves. Officials say they are worried that the wearing of headscarves could be disruptive to the learning environment, make other students uncomfortable, and that there was no discrimination going on. Similar bans are of course in place in other countries, such as Turkey and France. John Iadarola and Lisa Ferguson discuss on TYT University.

What do you think about the ban on wearing hijab in university classrooms in India and other countries? Is this an act of discrimination largely aimed at Muslim students? Some of them wear those not to get caught when they are going on dates because the society is very conservative there and probably a bit over-protective too.

It's actually really weird here. As of right now, almost 60% of the girls we see on roads are wearing headscarfs. And they are not Muslims. They shouldn't be banned though. Cheers from India!

Hindus also do cover their heads with saree,so headscarves should not offend them anyway especially in a multi religious country like INDIA..! Even during the times of Jesus (pbuh) everyone wore similar headscarves and dresses like that of muslims...so there should be harmony between muslims,christians and jews!

political reasons to BAN headscarves? no, if you knew Indian politics, you would know political parties constantly pander to minority interests and do very little to recognize the majority in the name of secularism and pluralism.. its impossible to win an election without the Muslim vote.. so again, political reasons to ban the headscarves? 14% of 1.2 billion people in India are Muslim, you honestly think there are political reasons to marginalize over 150 million people?
