Another shot at probably my favorite synth solo ever, from the song "Stranger" off of Mullmuzzler's second album (2001). I did the last attempt with my old Korg N5 (retired), so I decided to redo it with the Roland Juno-Stage. This solo is originally played by Matt Guillory, the keytarist from James LaBrie's solo project. It's a regular MG solo, tricky bendings, lotsa guitaristic phrasing, and just downright ballsy stuff. Backing track (guitar/drums) was played by me too. Hope you like it. Not.

  • i've seen most of your video and my conclusion:

    1. YOU ARE GREAT!

    2. juno stage are GREAT!!!

    3. YOU ARE AMAZING!

    4. JUNO STAGE ARE AMAZING!

i would like to buy juno stage, but can you tell me about the keyboard action? you have played it a lot didn't you? does it feels like toy, or weighted? can you create your own music via computer with drum kit and bass patch?

i would really appreciate your help ....

KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB MAN!

  • @1jordyzzz Thanks man. The keys are semi weighted, they have metal plates in them. Not as hard as a piano or any 88-key versions of modern keyboards, but still a bit harder than most 61/76-key synths. I thought that transfering from Korg N5 (which is VERY light) to this would be a problem, but it isn't. I got used to it pretty fast. Juno-stage also has midi-in/out and a midi controller mode, so it's easy to use with a computer.

  • Amazing playing, seems to be hard, specially those fast phrases. Any sheet to this solo? i would be pleased if you could share anything to help me play it. Thanks!

    5/5

  • Thanks! Sure, there are a few fast runs, but to me the hardest parts are most of those where you have to use the pitch bend. Matt has a bag full of tricky bendings. :D

No sheets, sorry, I learned it by ear. I can however point you to a handy little program called "Amazing Slow Downer". With it you can slow audio files down significantly without distorting them much. It helped me a lot.

  • Wow this is best solo I ever heard on keys! :O

You rock dude, I checked that original solo, you nailed it completely! How long it takes to develop so sick skills?

  • I'm playing seriously for about 10 years now, but if you're really dedicated and at least moderately talented you could develop the skills much sooner.

Wanting to be a guitarist but becoming a keyboardist instead because there were already two guitarists in your first band helps too, I guess. :D
